Data Desk/XL is an Excel add-in created with Visual Basic. Microsoft has ceased support for Visual Basic in Excel 2008 on Macintosh, therefore Data Desk/XL will not work in Excel 2008 or Excel 2011. We are investigating a solution to this problem. Please check back for updates.
Windows Vista no longer supports the help file format used in Data Desk/XL. This will be addressed with the next version of Data Desk/XL. In the interim, you can download a plug-in from Microsoft to view the Data Desk/XL help. To download this plug-in, visit Microsoft's Download Center.
Data Desk/XL can be used with computers running Windows XP/Vista/Win7 and Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5, 10.6.
If you have any problems using DDXL with Windows XP, go to Tools... Options... in the Excel menu bar. Click the security tab in the dialogue window that appears, then click the "Macro Security..." button. In the next window that appears, click the Trusted Sources tab and make sure the "Trust all installed add-ins and templates" box is checked.
On Windows, Excel 2000, Excel 2003, Excel 2007, Excel 2010. On Macintosh, Excel X or Excel 2004. (DDXL does not work in Excel 2008 or Excel 2011 for Mac.) See our Data Desk/XL Requirements web page for more information.
Installing DDXL is a two-part process. First, obtain the correct version for your system. If you are using Windows, you will need to start the DDXL installer, which will automatically copy the necessary files to your hard disk. If you are using Mac OS X, you will need to open the disk image (.dmg file) and drag the DDXL folder to the appropriate location on your hard disk as instructed.
Once the files have been installed on your computer, complete the following steps in Excel:

DDXL works in Excel X and Excel 2004 on the Macintosh OS X 10.4, 10.5, 10.6. DDXL does not work in Excel 2008 or Excel 2011.

There is a known issue with DDXL version 2.0 using Excel 2007 that may cause the program to crash, or result in a blank Names and Columns selection box. To prevent this problem, highlight a range of cells by clicking and dragging your mouse over the cells in the spreadsheet. Do not select entire columns by clicking on the column headers. Version 2.1 of DDXL addresses this issue.
