Key People Paul F. Velleman, Ph.D., is the chairman, chief scientist, and founder of Data Description and an Associate Professor of Statistical Sciences at Cornell University. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Velleman has published numerous books and articles on modern data analysis methods, graphical data analysis methods, and statistical computing. He is the designer of Data Desk and the principal pedagogy designer and author of ActivStats, for which he won the 1997 ICTCM Award for Contributions to Mathematics Teaching through Technology and the 1998 EDUCOM Medal. Read the latest Press Release... John C. Sammis is the president and chief operating officer of Data Description. Mr. Sammis combines a B.S. in Engineering from Clarkson University with an M.B.A. from Cornell Universitys Johnson Graduate School of Management. He has five years of engineering experience with IBM; two years as a chemical engineer in a manufacturing facility and three as a systems engineer in marketing. He has spent 15 years in the computer industry and has extensive experience in project management, product marketing, software design and cash flow management. Since 1991, Mr. Sammis has been the General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Data Description. John Walker, Ph.D., is assistant professor of statistics at the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, and a senior statistical consultant to the Company. He is the lead statistical designer for Data Desk/Microarray, the companys specialized data exploration tool for microarray data, and has actively participated in the design of many of the Companys other products, such as Data Desk and ActivStats. Dr. Walkers expertise is in bioinformatics, data mining, statistical computing, and statistical graphics. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Statistics Education Section of the American Statistical Association. |
